About ao3.life
ao3.life keeps fan fiction from disappearing. It holds copies of works from the Archive of Our Own so readers can still search, read, download and listen when the original is out of reach.
Updated
What it is
An independent, searchable archive of AO3 works, 15,831,236 of them today. It is not affiliated with the Archive of Our Own or the Organization for Transformative Works, which runs AO3. It doesn't replace AO3: nobody posts here, and there are no kudos or comments. It is a place to read when AO3 can't be reached, and to take your favourites with you.
How it keeps works available
- Stored copies. Each work is kept as the EPUB file it was saved as, in private storage, and served unchanged.
- AO3 only. Every work shown here is confirmed as an AO3 work, with its original AO3 address. You can always follow the link back.
- Snapshots, not a live mirror. Works are copies as they were when saved. Chapters posted later may be missing.
- Takedowns honoured everywhere. A removed work disappears from search, tags, its page, downloads and audio, and its address answers “Removed”.
What it shows, and to whom
- Browsing is open to everyone. Search, tags and work pages need no account.
- Reading in the browser and EPUB downloads are open to everyone. Fair-use limits per visitor keep bulk scrapers, including AI training crawlers, from copying the archive. A free sign-in with your email makes downloads faster.
- An age check covers every work not rated General or Teen, and any work with an Underage warning. Until you confirm you are of legal age, those works show only their fandom, rating and length.
Listening
Any work can be turned into an audiobook with computer-generated narration: a free three-minute preview, then the full book if you want it. More on listening.
Authors come first
Every work belongs to its author. Authors can have a work removed by writing to legal@ao3.life, and it goes. Read how attribution and removal work.
