The Innocence of Youth
by Omoni
My attempt at debunking the whole "Aang is an ignorant 12-year-old boy". Doesn't anyone besides me remember being twelve? Warning: This fic contains suggestive and somewhat adult material and should be read with discretion.

The Gray Beach
by Writer1001
AU in which Aang never met the Lion Turtle. The Avatar has to make an agonising decision on what to do when he is facing Ozai. So many options but can he pick the right one?

blade of silver, forge of blue
by MikkiOfTheAnbu
“Blessed Spirit, we thank you for the gift of this child’s life. We are forever in your debt.” The whole village is kneeling now, even the tiniest toddlers flopped down on their stomachs doing their best approximation of a bow. “Please, won’t you give us a name to call you? We would like to properly express our gratitude.” Oh.Well shit. (Where Zuko saves a little Earth Kingdom girl from drowning, the villagers think he's a Spirit, build him a shrine, and long story short, a fake story about the Blue Spirit who dances with dragons suddenly becomes very real.)

All The Gentle Creatures
by Haicrescendo
It’s said that you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals. Zuko may be loud and stubborn and sharp but all the woodland creatures love him.

lessons in tea making
by aloneintherain
AU where Zuko realises early into his banishment that Ozai is an abusive bastard who sent him on a wild goose chase. Iroh turns their decommissioned warship into a floating tea shop, and Zuko settles down as a tea server onboard the Jasmine Dragon. And then, years later, the Avatar emerges from the iceberg. And then Aang decides that he wants Zuko, the first good firebender he’s met this century, to be his firebending teacher - even though Zuko wants nothing to do with him.Based on this tumblr post.

(do you take this jerk to be) your one and only
by jatersade
Under the leadership of Fire Lord Iroh, the Fire Nation has made every attempt to restore peace and make amends for the harm they inflicted during the Seventy-Year War. Their newest proposal is a literal proposal: a marriage to unite the Fire Nation and the Water Tribes. The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand. The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.Sokka is apparently the only person in the world who has a problem with any of this.

Wishful Thinking
by mindbending
Right after Boiling Rock, Zuko found Sokka sprawled in his tent with a bouquet of red roses, and a ring of romantic candles, and one final rose set between his teeth. With the littlest twinge of envy, Zuko realized the entire display was for Suki. The point is Sokka's flirting is about as subtle as a buffalo yak. To miss it, you’d have to be a complete and utter airhead.

Boomerangs and Rainbows
by mindbending
At Sokka’s behest, the Gaang skips rescuing Zuko during the Siege at the North Pole. Instead they leave him, unconscious, buried in the snow.In completely unrelated news, Sokka’s haunted by a ghost now. (If you'd like more details before deciding to read this story, look here for spoilers.)

Unwanted Friends
by FoiblePNoteworthy
Aang knew those swords. He’d seen them every day, felt the warm, if rough, presence of their owner in all his hardest moments and coldest flights. He was a strong figure, gentle in his own way. A Firebender who still used swords.***There needs to be more platonic soulmate AUs, you guys. Come on. Who wants to see Zuko get dragged into his redemption arc by his soulmates?

positive affirmation
by blueseam
“It’s pretty impressive that you know how to fight with weapons when you can bend fire,” Sokka says, and Zuko promptly drops both swords.Okay, yeah, that was strange. Or: How To Resocialize Your Firebender in Ten Easy Steps

respite
by Blue_Pluto
“It’s healing really well.” Katara tells him with a smile, before her lips quirk down into a frown. “Though it’ll still scar pretty bad.” Zuko shrugs. “It’s ok. I doubt people will really focus on it anyway… the one on my face is a bit more prominent.” Katara makes a face, like she’s not quite sure if she should laugh or frown, when Toph speaks up. “You have a scar on your face?” Toph asks, sitting up so she’s sitting by his legs rather than lying on them. Zuko blinks. He never quite forgets that Toph is blind, but the fact that she can’t see his scar never really occurred to him. “Oh, yeah.” Zuko looks down at his lap. “My father burned like, half my face off before I was banished.” He says it a little too casually, probably not bitterly enough. A crash next to him makes him look up, to see Katara's horrified expression, and a shattered bowl of water at her feet.No one says anything for a long moment. “Zuko… it- your dad?” Katara finally manages to gasp out. Zuko blinks at her, his brain moving slowly. “You didn’t know?” He asks in genuine surprise. “No.” Sokka wheezes. Zuko blinks at him. “Oh.” Is all he can manage to say.

enmity (isn't for heroes)
by blueseam
Zuko stands to leave, only to waver, swaying just a little. His blood pressure shifts, and Toph can feel what’s about to happen a moment before it does. “Someone catch him! He’s gonna –“ With a crash, the dish tumbles from suddenly limp fingers, and Zuko crumples to the ground. “…faint,” Toph finishes. The Gaang’s journey to trusting Zuko is anything but smooth. (Slight AU after Boiling Rock)

Sometimes Friends Are Better

The first thing Toph notices about Zuko is that he’s pretty much always scared. The others figure it out with time.

Fueling the Flames
by HappilyUnconventional34
At first, Sokka dismisses it.He notices, they all do, that Katara feeds Zuko less. A lot less. He notices that Zuko’s portions are often burnt and lacking any care, so even the little bit he does get is barely salvageable.Sokka notices, but he doesn’t care.(In which Fire Benders need to eat twice as much because they create their own fire. Based off Chapter 17 of "The One Where Zuko's Hair Matches Sokka's and Other Tales")

Zuko’s compass pointed south until the day his father burnt it off. Sokka’s never pointed home until the day he left it.
