There’s something missing from him, something fundamental that’s not there. Something Caleb obviously needed. Adam wasn’t enough for him, and now all he has is this heaviness in his chest from a burden he never really thought he’d be carrying.He should have known, though; obviously he and Caleb weren’t going to last. They were first loves. High school sweethearts. Of course Caleb got bored of him and moved on.It’s the lack of closure that’s the worst part. Not knowing what he did or didn’t do – not even having the opportunity to talk to Caleb and figure things out.In the beginning of October, Caleb Michaels broke Adam’s heart. And the days since have simultaneously been a blur and passed far too slowly. Every day is a struggle; every day is a lack. Every second of his life is missing something – someone – that used to be such a necessity. And Adam doesn’t know how to deal with it just yet.

His face gets hot, and he quickly tucks it into his pocket. “I, uhm. I saw your ad. It, ah, caught my eye, I suppose you might say.”Dr. Bright smiles. It’s a genuine smile, one that crinkles her eyes at the corners, but it also does very little to help Jon gauge her response. “Of course. It’s not exactly the most… typical method for advertising a therapist. Was there any particular reason it drew your attention?”Jon chews on his lip. “Well, ah. I don’t know that the sort of problems I have could be helped by any typical therapist.”----Or, Somewhere Else, Jon finds a therapist.

Because there’s a moment, not long after, when Caleb is talking the sunlight filtering through the window hits Caleb’s face in just the right way, and something in Adam wants this moment to never end. And he’s pretty sure “friend” doesn’t quite cover this particular range of emotions that he’s going through here.
