More Missing Stories - Bester Saved The World

by pallasite

"Hey, why don't we drop a single sentence in the book - a vague line with no context or explanation - instead of ever telling the story it refers to? Yeah! What an excellent idea!"Unfortunately, the writers do this A LOT. And these aren't throwaway lines with nothing behind them - they are real stories, and important stories. They cut out how Bester worked with EarthForce during the Earth-Minbari War, for example. They also cut out how Bester's squadron defended Earth (and saved Earth) during the Shadow War. It's canon that Sheridan knows what happened. It's canon that even Garibaldi knows what happened. But somehow, you don't.I discuss the missing stories. The prologue of Behind the Gloves is here - please read!

Canon Reference List of All the Times Normals Kill Telepaths

by pallasite

I've compiled the Big Ass List of Examples of canon abuse of telepaths, by normals, over 150 years. This list only includes what is directly mentioned or shown, and does not include the Telepath War itself. I also haven't yet included all the examples from the other canon books - I know there are other telepaths in those books who met a terrible fate at the hands of normals. The same list can be found in my prior post here, where I dissect a JMS Usenet post and respond with a discussion of the canon history and the legal framework by which telepaths are "regulated".I am presently working on a novella focusing on just the events of 2156 - the year the Centauri arrived and made first contact, and the year the Corps (as such) was formed. This is one of the most eventful six-month periods in canon, but it somehow only gets a few pages and some indirect references later on. You deserve the full book.

The Shadow Ship - Art

by pallasite

Artwork I commissioned from Hachiimon from DeviantArt, showing the excavation of the Shadow ship on Mars.(IPX found the ship, and then IPX, EarthGov and Department Sigma of Psi Corps all got into a fight over it until a second Shadow ship came, dug it out, and both flew away.)The two figures in front are Al Bester, and a Department Sigma administrator, Aubrey Pierre-Louis.The prologue of Behind the Gloves is here - please read!

Department Sigma - The

by pallasite

The prologue of Behind the Gloves is here - please read! The elusive "Department Sigma" is mentioned many times in the canon books, and the results of their work (and mishaps) are mentioned several times in the show (e.g. Dust, and the Ironheart debacle). Indeed, when it comes to "secret projects" in the Corps, it seems they're behind everything. But who was "Department Sigma," and what were they really up to?Perhaps surprisingly, they weren't the "evil" outfit the show leads you to believe. Rather, the inspiration for their work came directly from the Vorlons themselves, who took Psi Corps director Kevin Vacit, and his aide Natasha Alexander (Lyta's grandmother) onto their ship - and showed them the long, difficult path necessary for humanity to defeat the Shadows. Telepaths were at the center of the plan.Director Johnston assassinated Natasha Alexander.Under subterfuge, Department Sigma plowed ahead anyway, knowing nothing less was at stake than humanity itself.

The Rogue of Brasilia

by pallasite

A Psi Cop disappears on Mars, and reappears a month later in the abandoned metro tunnels under Brasilia - and she's seemingly possessed by evil spirits. No one can catch her, so they call in Bester and his team. This is a canon story, but canon drops it, and only mentions these events after the fact. It's an important story for the development of the plot, however, so I'm telling you the story that Gregory Keyes left out. There's something very strange about this rogue in Brasilia...The prologue of Behind the Gloves is here - please read!

On the Public - and Secret - Relationship Between Psi Corps and EarthForce

by pallasite

A multi-part work detailing this relationship in different time periods. This material comes back throughout Behind the Gloves and the companion backstory novellas (in-progress).1. Telepaths in EarthForce security, stopping terrorism (during both the MRA and the Corps, through the Vacit era)2. Telepaths in "special ops" (also through the Vacit era) - not really EarthForce but needs to be discussed anyway3. Director Johnston's backstory4. Psi Corps secret cooperation with EarthGov in the Johnston era and beyond, e.g. at the joint base on Ganymede, before, during and after the Earth-Minbari WarAlso, President Robinson knew all along that Karges was a telepath.

The Dark Side of Cadre

by pallasite

Cadre Prime was the most elite of all cadres in the Corps. Those twenty-five, maybe thirty students each year - out of the whole Corps of millions - were hand-picked for the most prestigious jobs upon reaching adulthood. They became high-level administrators. They became teachers. They became whatever they wanted. But they had also survived a system that was, at times, uniquely abusive. Now that I've spent nearly 200k words in Behind the Gloves introducing readers to telepath culture, I begin also to discuss some things that went Wrong. No nation is ever perfect. Telepaths are no different - humans are humans, and humans are imperfect beings. Humans fail. This is the lesson Bester takes away from his experiences with abuse in school. The prologue of Behind the Gloves is here - please read!
