The Twin Siblings' New Life - Aidela
by CamIsWriting
For their fifth birthday, twins Arjen and Arien traded gifts in secret: Arien gave up her portion of dinner so Arjen could finally sleep on a full stomach; Arjen gave his sister a rudimentally handmade journal of scrap paper and twine. Arien does not remember much of her previous life, just that she had one. Sometimes she gets a strange tune stuck in her head, or she remembers that she loved peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or that she was killed on impact by an oncoming truck. Mostly she tries to use what previous experience she's retained to survive in the body she currently occupies, and to protect her brother from the abuse they suffer under their mother's hand. When their mother dies, however, the twins are swept away to the Imperial Palace to live under the guardianship of their father. Everything changes after that, and Arien and Arjen struggle to figure out how to adjust. As does their father, the Emperor. The twins quickly realize that they're not the only ones holding back secrets.

So beautiful, Bauglir smiled, pressing cold lips to the back of her hand. Estrela—a lovely name for a lovely girl, if somewhat cold for your warm coloring, my dear! Still, there is the poetry of it: even the golden sun, after all, is a Star. (She watches the copper-haired spy from a distance.)

“Is he recovered?” I ask, as cold as the earth underfoot.Fingon shakes his head, his mouth sewn up uneasily. “His fall,” he says. “It wasn’t the break. It’s an abscess. Nasty thing. Needs to be lanced, and soon.”
