After Rand announces himself as the Car'a'carn at Alcair Dal, he takes spears north, heading towards Niamh Pass near the Shienaran border to beat back the Shadowspawn currently overrunning Shienar. Rand paused a moment. Elayne and Mat were tangled up on the pallet — Elayne had fallen asleep waiting for Rand to return, and was curled around Mat comfortably. That spill of warm golden hair across Mat's chest, the way that Mat was touching her face and staring down at her. It felt like Rand was seeing a vision of the future, after he was gone. Would they get married? Would Mat become the… the Prince-Consort of Andor? Have children, maybe? Mat was so good with his sisters. And Elayne would want girls, to continue the Trakand rule of Andor. A tiny girl with Elayne's dimple and Mat's dark curls. Rand almost felt like he could see her, looking at the two of them like this.
