Some Other Story
by After88
From the moment she set eyes on Varric Tethras, some part of Hawke knew he'd be more than just an average friend. Sure, she wasn't supposed to trust him from the get go, she should have been more suspicious of him taking her hard earned expedition money and running off, but she wasn't.It could have been the fact that he outright admitted to being a liar and wore it as a badge of pride, spending hours spinning tales in a tavern, mostly for his own amusement. Maybe it was the fact he always offered to buy a round or four when she didn't have any money to spare. Or maybe because he was one of the few people that took their time getting to know her instead of judging her as a stoic, hard-headed brute. But it was probably because under that rogue tongue and flashy clothes was a hidden heart of gold.

Gav and Chez are fun—” “They’re vermin and sons of vermin,” Bartrand said. “Father says so. You want to grow up like them? They'll be shop assistants or street sweeps or smiths that couldn’t forge Orzammar’s garbage. Or you want to be like your little fisher-girl friend? She's the worst of them all. At least humans know what they are.”Varric Tethras runs wild on the streets of Kirkwall—much to his brother Bartrand’s displeasure—and Varric already has his own ideas about who his friends should be.
