Oblivion
by pathological_runaway
Daleth is afraid of being forgotten. Which, put this way, doesn’t really make any sense: they’re the most experienced and wise of all Elders, they’re the one others look up to, their advice is welcome and sought. There’s no reason for them to fear being forgotten, not really, not with the impact they have on the lives of so many people.Still, Daleth wonders if it’ll be enough once they’re gone.

Gone
by pathological_runaway
Daleth does not think it will take Alef long to come to their senses and to return to Isle, preferably with an understanding of all the downsides of the darkstone industry and willingness to slow down.Day after day, their hopes remain unfulfilled.

Shin Megami Tensei II
Love in Idleness
by Mieldyne
During the Midsummer Night’s Dream / Shinjuku Arc. Daleth is actually proud of himself for such a clever way of subduing Aleph, and he didn’t even have to get into a dangerous (and humiliating) fight with him again! But as soon as Aleph opens his eyes, the potion takes effect and… Daleth is the first person he sees. So naturally, according to the concoction’s effect, he falls madly in love with Daleth and will stop at nothing to be with him. Then again, from Daleth’s point of view, is it really all that bad?

“I mean, I know some things about them,” the child continues, “I’ve heard people say that they were a bad person, that they killed light creatures and started a war, which is a bad thing, too, but I’m not sure what exactly it is... But I- I don’t really understand much about them. Could you explain to me who they were?”With the reaction elicited from other Elders, Daleth probably should have expected this kind of question. They did, in a way, anticipate that the Ruler might be brought up, but it did not make them feel any more prepared for this conversation.“I can try,” Daleth says, “but it isn’t an easy thing to explain. Or a happy one.”___A young moth seeks answers. Daleth gives them what they need.

Unforgivable
by pathological_runaway
“I’m not mad at you. Not anymore.” Daleth stifles a sigh as they turn away; it is surprisingly more interesting to look at the broken tiles of the once perfectly-smooth floor now furrowed with creases and cracks and covered with layers of dust so thick that it seems to never go away.“I’m just so fucking disappointed.”

Cracks on the floor
by pathological_runaway
There is a child, a very young one, examining them. They are wearing simple clothes, their short white hair is ruffled, and there is a flame, not unlike the one in the Elder’s hand, shining right in the centre of their chest.“Hello there, little one,” they say. The child does not react, continuing to stare at the person in front of them with the same intensity as before. “What brings you here?”

Remembered
by pathological_runaway
There are forget-me-nots growing near the Isle Temple, and they have never been so numerous before.Ever since the first child stepped on the dark-green grass dotted with flowers, ever since they walked slowly towards the immense door, ever since the Elder’s mask was restored and their sleepy gaze met the curious eyes shining as brightly as the sun itself — forget-me-nots have been spreading wildly near the Temple walls, covering every patch of grass and painting the whole hill blue, as if reflecting the clear skies that once were above Isle of Dawn.

Buried
by pathological_runaway
A soft sound of footsteps breaks the silence, echoing in the empty hall. Not much sun enters the room through the cloud-blocked windows, and the stone surfaces surrounding them are cold and lonely — but the light they sense coming from behind them fills their sore limbs with warmth, a pleasant feeling spreading across their whole body. They turn around."Ah," the Isle Elder says, a smile on their lips, as they peruse the visitor. "It is you."___A child of light comes by to show the Isle Elder what has become of their realm.

I know you didn't, I know you aren't

Would things have gone differently if they had been different? Would Alef still be around, would the Kingdom still be safe and sound? Would the two still be close if Daleth had been more pushy, or less pushy, or-They do not know what they should have done differently. And not knowing it is far, far worse than knowing could ever be.Daleth suddenly wants to be all by themself in their room, with no one to disturb them for a whole month or two. They could re-read all their favourite books, or sleep for days, or maybe reminisce about the old times and cry their eyes out. It would do them good.Resh makes a funny sound and speaks again.“No, you didn’t.”_____Daleth finds the King, maskless and scarred, sitting near the Temple one morning. They talk, or at least try to.
