This is a world where people are born with two different colored eyes, one is their natural eye color and the other is their soul mate’s natural eye color. When a person makes eye contact with their soul mate, each person's eyes lose their soul mate’s color and become a pair of their own natural color. Shion is in a bit of a bind. Shion was more occupied with recalling the image of Nezumi clinging to him that morning, eyes fever bright but his grip no weaker for it. He had clutched onto him like he was afraid Shion would disappear if he as much as loosened his grip. Through opened lips, shallowly sucking in air, he’d whispered only one word. “Stay.”

You don’t need to try so hard.” Shion doesn’t shrug Nezumi off this time, just looks up and gives him a resolute glare. “Don’t say things like that,” he snaps, “of course it’s important, it was your home.” (or: five years later, Nezumi returns to No. 6 on the eve of a typhoon)
