Neither of them really meant for this to happen. Kiera and Alec act on feelings they've been trying to hide and impetuously fall into what, by necessity, has to be a one night stand. Set sometime mid-season 4. Timeline is vague and there's not a lot of context because, like her characters' decisions, author was acting entirely on impulse in writing this. (And then, because this was, from the beginning, The Story That Would Not Shut Up, this turned into a what-if-Kiera-stayed fix-it fic.)

An interlude as one year changes for another. An offshoot AU imagining within Clock Wise verse, but I believe it functions as a standalone as well.

“My grandmother was quite right, Lady Kiera. Your portraits captured only a fraction of your beauty,” said Prince Valarr, who kept holding her hand long after the gesture was made. All the while he grinned—which could have very well been an act, because Kiera was certain he must know how to perform for the court just as well as she. Still, she very much wished it was authentic. Only time would tell. — Or, Kiera’s thoughts when she meets Prince Valarr and when she marries him.
