Pikachu long dead asleep to the world in Ash’s new giant bed and the mouse couldn’t give two shits what his trainer was doing. Just as long as he doesn’t go and fucking kill himself. It’s two in the morning, Ash is two cheap bottles of wine deep, some kind of kids Alolan tv show is playing on the plasma screen, and his Kalos Pokédex is going off with the Professor’s name flashing at the top. What is his fucking life.

When Ash awakens screaming, it takes a good few moments for his brain to process his surroundings. His heart pounds violently in his chest; the darkness cloaks all lingering familiarity, grasping at his arms and winding knots around his throat. Pikachu is there, though. The mouse makes sombre little chirps as she paws at her trainer’s cheeks, pressing her little muzzle into the space between his neck and his jaw. 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮, she seems to chirrup softly, tingling with the faint thrill of errant static. 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮, 𝘈𝘴𝘩, 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴. Tldr; after all this time, Ash suddenly can’t keep Kalos off his mind. Maybe there’s a reason for that.

He’d let down his guard, finally wanted to trust someone with this, because it was getting too much. He was usually fine with it, but everything had been building up and bothering him more and more for a while now. Everything reminded him of it; Lusamine’s eyes— green, not gray, but still— and that fiery, icy, hot and cold gaze they held, the same instability they held, when they looked into his eyes, they were the same. Her sickly-sweet voice, her interest in Nebby, they were the same. And when he looked into Burnet’s green-gray eyes, even when they were kind, loving, looking on him, it didn’t help that in the darkness they looked the same as hers. The way they all looked at him when he met Tapu Koko immediately after he getting there, and the weird look in their eyes when he pulled off his super-powered Z-move. It was all too much and all too similar to her. To him. In other words, Ash is Not Having a Good Time™ and in an impulsive decision blocks Kukui and runs away.
