She was working her usual Saturday night shift and the place was crowded, every table was filled with teenagers, truck drivers, and tradition. All except for one table. An older boy in a green T-shirt and camo pants sat alone in a booth in Marcia’s section, a large duffel filling the seat across from him.ORTwo-Bit is about to leave for bootcamp when he meets Marcia, a nice waitress who offers to be the person he can write honest letters to when he ships out.Based on Travelin' Soldier by the Chicks but also I'm changing some things (The End???)

She looked back, pleading on her face. “Let me just-” he took one of the napkins they'd gotten at the concession stand and pulled out the pencil he kept behind his ear, scrawling on the surface. “Call me.” he said, more desperately than he would have liked.She took it, fingers lingering on his for a small moment. “Bye.” she whispered, giving him a sad look before turning and making her way to the racket. Even though he knew better, he couldn’t stifle the hope that he’d be getting that call soon.–But that was two months ago, she’d never called, and everything had changed. Bob was dead. Johnny was dead. Even big, tough Dally was dead.
