Jefferson Davis can’t lie to himself, as much as he tries. He and Miles have always butted heads-- his son just has this carefree, unfettered approach to life that Davis' strict, no-nonsense methods seemingly have no place in. A large part of him loves Miles for that, truly, even though sometimes Jefferson feels as if he's just slowing him down. But now, with Miles away at school on weeknights-- seemingly always busy with something or another-- Jefferson has never felt that gaping space between himself and his son yawn wider. Enter the new Spider-Man. A free-spirited kid, five foot nothing and standing between the whole city and danger as if it’s his job, breaking a long series of minor laws with careless ease, and giving a certain cop heart palpitations on a regular basis. Jefferson Davis can’t lie to himself anymore. No matter how much he hates vigilantes-- especially of the masked variety-- a child is a child. And a dad is a dad.

He asks.Hobie shoves his hands into his vest pockets and leans back on his heels, "Can't really say that's my area of expertise." His feet click when he lands back on them, flat.Miles blinks at him, "Oh. Oh." He says dumbly.Hobie smirks, "Mhm," he says simply, "How 'bout you? You fancy Gwenny?" He asks. There's something almost taunting in his tone, like he already knows the answer to his question. Miles envies him for that. --- Or; Hobie visits Miles every week to keep up on the TV show they've been watching. One night, things don't go as planned, feelings get revealed, and Miles only has to do mild damage control.

Deception has gotten the best of Miles Morales for a good couple years now. Its tracked him down and resurfaced like weeds between his feet at every moment he’d least expected it. He’ll admit, he has a long way to go when it comes to knowing who to trust and who might be secretly trying to kill you and/or lie to you about your very existence. But hey, everybody’s gotta learn somewhere right? (or, Miles Morales, recently landed in Earth 42, has had enough of everyone’s shit and he’s going to save his dad or so help him he’ll lose his mind. Miles Morales 42, just wants to know what the /hell/ is up with his doppelgänger.)

Miles sees Hobie multiple times a week. Hobie climbs in through his window, despite his mom telling all of Miles’ friends to knock on the front door. Hobie lets Miles wear his jackets and bundles him up in them on chilly nights. There’s at least one full sketchbook full of his face, his hair, his profile, his guitar, his thin, deft hands, everything. Hobie is one of his best friends, which is why it is horrible and terrible that Hobie has to see him like this, right now. “You can’t be here twenty-four-seven, dude,” Miles says. “That look ain’t gonna work on me.” “What if I want to?” His thumb, tracing Miles’ jaw. “Would you let me, if you could?” Miles gets a nasty injury during a routine night as Spider-Man. It isn't a big deal until Hobie Brown climbs in through his window.

Miles "questionable morals" Morales needed to come up with a brilliant lie when his parents saw him with Peter. What did he come up with of course? That Peter is his uncle, specifically he's married to his Uncle Aaron. The look of shock on his parents face about finding out that Aaron was even married, much less to a man didn't help when Peter chose to go along with the lie. Now he and Aaron are caught up in a web of their own making as they continue to spin the web of a small lie that started all because Miles sucks at coming up with them.
