Born a waterbender, raised a firebender. Aera is the rightful heir to the throne. She is the one true Firelord. And her hate is beginning to boil. With fire, blood and water, she will take what is hers. And though she may bend water, there is no heat she cannot endure. She must remain strong. Even when dissenters claim her legitimacy void, she will fight tooth and nail and with fire and blood. No one will stand in her way... Not even the Avatar.“Your very essence as a being is impossible… both water and fire course through your veins.”

At Sokka’s behest, the Gaang skips rescuing Zuko during the Siege at the North Pole. Instead they leave him, unconscious, buried in the snow.In completely unrelated news, Sokka’s haunted by a ghost now. (If you'd like more details before deciding to read this story, look here for spoilers.)

Ozai said he'd killed Iroh. So when he shot lightning at Zuko- the lightning came back. Azula's fire broke when she saw Ozai dead- Zuko promised to fix things.Everyone is confused about where the Fire Nation troopes are going.Zuko is Fire Lord. Everyone is kind of confused about that too.

[“Watch the tail, child.”Zuko watches the tail and cradles the baby Charmander carefully and close. It sleeps soundly like most infant pokémon and doesn’t stir even when he has to shift its position. He knows at that very instant that he would rather die than see it harmed, and the potent spike of feeling burns his throat and the space behind his eyes.Azula holds her Bagon with reluctance, uncomfortably, like she’d rather drop it to the floor.Zuko never wants to put Charmander down.]Or,Zuko’s life has never been easy and somehow, it always manages to get harder.

There was a lot that he planned on never, ever telling Sokka. But a part of him, a growing, traitorous part that whispered in his own voice rather than his father’s, desperately wanted to share some of it. So when Sokka asked, firmly but so, so gently, if he wanted to talk about the scar, he said yes.

Zuko spins in his bed, and somehow keeps spinning until his feet hit the floor. There is a sudden dizziness and heavy feeling blanketing him, like the tail-end of a heavy cold, and he feels a strip of fabric fall off his shoulders. It feels strangely like an Agni Kai shawl, he thinks disoriented as he tries to get his bearings again. In which an older Zuko is transported to the first Agni Kai he ever fought.

Fire Lord Zuko was...different. He thanked the servants for doing their jobs. He wouldn’t get angry over accidents or mistakes, either. It was slightly off-putting, as far as Chihiro was concerned. If Chihiro hadn’t been watching, she wouldn’t have believed it herself. She didn’t entirely believe it anyway. Still, surely something of importance would come of the new Fire Lord’s strange behavior. Though, to be fair, she thought to herself as a half-masked figure leapt at her from the shadows of a pillar one evening, she hadn’t thought that that ‘something’ would be an attempted coup. (Or, in which a palace servant decides, yeah, I'm protecting this kid.)

Zuko comes to a stop in front of Ozai, looking down on his kneeling form. A bitter laugh rises in his throat, because it’s so stupid how the roles have been reversed so quickly, but the memory of Azula’s laughter, wild and uncontrolled and unhinged, everything that she never was, makes him swallow it down.So he just looks at him. And Ozai looks back. Takes place right after Aang and Ozai's battle and the final Agni Kai between Azula and Zuko. The Gaang reunites, and Zuko confronts Ozai.

“You will learn to firebend Prince Zuko,” Ozai said with a cruel smile. “Your life depends on it.”

Ozai escapes prison exactly two times. Both times, he is apprehended and humiliated...by animals. Zuko is unaware of both mishaps.

“So, you got married and didn’t invite me to the wedding? And to water tribe savage, no less.”Zuko, biting back retaliation to the slur, smoothed his finger over the ridges of the carvings in his betrothal necklace, eyes going back to his father. “We’re engaged.”Arguing always was Ozai’s forte. Zuko supposed that was where he got the gene from.He didn’t want to argue any more.OrZuko goes to visit his father. Ozai notices his betrothal necklace. Things don't go as Zuko had planned them.

Ozai has never loved anyone, and even if he had in the past, he has forgotten it. But Ozai had always demanded loyalty, and although Azula carried out his every command, he had no doubt that his daughter would betray him if it benefited her. But there was one person who had given him his undying loyalty since day one. The person who he had burned and sent away. And now he has a feeling he never had before: shame. And dammed he be if he’ll let his position as Zuko’s father be stolen by some water tribe chief. A position he didn’t deserve, but now wanted to have.

Ozai and Iroh come home and Zolena throws herself at Iroh, her eyes wide and frightened and Lu Ten pulled along after her, kept close to her side. “Ursa still isn’t back,” she says, and Ozai goes completely still. Ursa isn’t back? Ursa isn’t supposed to be gone.
