Slowly, the tower shrank, and the obsidian in his inventory grew. He ignored the flickers of red tendrils in his vision, the lightning that made something a little to the left of pain jolt through his eyes and made his whole mouth taste like metal, the low, distorted cackling that he couldn’t quite remember ever hearing in real life. It was hard to tell if it was future or past, vision or memory. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know.   Or: the slow-dawning apocalypse is a bad time to be a prophet.

Pixandria is an ancient civilization, first founded in the desert and expanded over the centuries. The Vigil formed its most central point, a place of worship and commemoration in what would become the capital city, where evercandles rested and recorded the deaths of other rulers, allied or not. A majestic sandstone tower that hummed and buzzed with energy, as mysterious as it was mystical. They say every Pixandrian could hear that soft, near imperceptible hum in their minds and hearts, a gentle reminder to live life to the fullest. People traveled from far and wide to witness its glory and converse with the Keeper of the Vigil, the highest authority chosen by the Vigil itself, the people's Copper King, named after the resource that brought wealth and jobs to their humble country. They have known peace and tranquility for many centuries, finding strength in numbers and community. The Vigil has watched over them for a thousand years - so long as they have their community and the Vigil, their quiet guardian, Pixandria will stand for a thousand more. One day, the Vigil screamed. It was the middle of the night, and something was moving outside.Pixl got out of bed near-silently and grabbed the trident and shield he always kept nearby, creeping to the door. Pixandria was quiet, mostly sleeping, with only a few still awake. There were some guards out, of course, but none of them would have been so loud.Pixl knew his city, and he knew the difference between how it sounded when all was well and when there was an intruder. Or: Sausage didn't come back to life the same, and Pixl is the only one who can understand. That doesn't make them friends.
