“It’s okay, you know,” Link said suddenly. “It had to be someone. It might as well be me.”Rusl stood staring at this boy he’d raised, wondering who Link’s true parents were, whether they still lived, how he’d ended up alone in these very woods. Would they feel as proud as Rusl did in this moment, as sad as he did? Would they struggle against a selfish desire to shift this fate to a different pair of shoulders? Just—anyone but Link, who was so sweet and so tireless and so willing to give up his own air so that others could breathe.

Rusl chases the beast, its wounded- heavily, if the amount of blood leading the trail was any clue. He’d seen the wolf hanging around the edge of the tree line, watching everyone, watching the kids play as if waiting for one to wander just a little too far from the group. The same beast that had jumped at him all those months when the kids had originally gone missing- so he’d been keeping an eye out for it, camping further and further from the village to coax it to come after him again. He just doesn't expect the beast to turn into the boy that was left on his doorstep many, many years ago.

Rusl gets him sitting comfy, with a pillow under his arm - “To help you keep his head up; he can’t do that on his own, yet” - and then very carefully sets Colin in his arms. And then Link is holding his baby brother.Colin is so tiny. He’s got such little fingers, and no hair yet, and Link is easily holding his whole body in his arms.“Hi, Colin,” he whispers. It’s like the whole world has stopped existing, and it’s just the two of them. “I’m Link.”

After his torture by the dregs of the Zantian partisans, Twilight doesn't want to talk to or deal with anyone on the crew while he feels contaminated by what they did to him. Because of that, an unexpected stop is made on Twili's sister-planet Ordon, one Twilight never would've asked them for: he's not so sick he needs to go home like a child.
