Stories of a place called the Shire where her mother once lived and a placed called Erebor where, as far as she knows, her father still lives. Stories of dragons a thousand times larger, and more intelligent, than the beasts the orcs rode and of a strange concept called freedom where one was allowed to live as they wished with no one to tell them what they could, or could not do. The stories meant little to Bilba. The only future she had was to live, and die, as a slave as countless number had before her. And then the orcs dragged an injured female firedrake through the gates, her rider screaming obscenities behind her as he fought to reach her side...and everything changed.

Written for seniorpotato on tumblr, who asked for a sort-of-Frozen!AU Every Hobbit in the Shire has a Season. The children of Summer are known for their fires, the Springs for their skills at gardening and healing, and the Autumns for the winds that they can bend to their will. Bilbo Baggins has a different Season, a cursed Season. Bilbo Baggins is a child of Winter, blamed by many for the suffering of the Fell Winter of his infancy. Shunned and forced to restrain his powers with an amulet, Bilbo suddenly finds his skills needed to assist a horde of suicidal Dwarves on their Quest to kill a dragon. Fire cannot kill a dragon, but perhaps Ice can... if it can be controlled.

Years later, Thorin comes for him. 44. In the darkest hour, Bilbo plants the acorn in Dale. 45. Mountain winters are not for hobbits. 46. Bilbo is injured by the spiders. 47. After learning of Thorin's upcoming political marriage and another piece of unfortunate news, Bilbo leaves Erebor. 48. A mysterious gift turns Thorin and Bilbo into children. 49. As Thorin sinks into goldsickness, Bilbo finds himself sick with something else. 50. Five Times Thorin put his clothes (coat) on Bilbo, and one time Bilbo did that himself. 51. The battle is won. But the prize, to Thorin, was too high. 52. In another series of events, the conflict surrounding Erebor is resolved by games. And mushroom stew. 53. Bilbo figures out how to use the Arkenstone during battle. But the price for using its power is high. 54. Summer has come to the East: too hot for hobbits general and too sunny for certain parts of Thorin's skin not used to exposure. More to come?
