"There are details in this document that absolutely no one should know unless they have inside information on us. There’s hints that they know our patrol schedules and regularly keep tabs on us. I don't know who's behind this, or what they want with Batman, but tracking the writer needs to be a priority." "And this document is… a fanfiction?" _________ (Tim Drake writes Batman fanfiction. He doesn't expect Batman to actually find it.)

As far as birthdays go, Tim would like for Deathstroke to pretend they never exist. He is, of course, never that lucky, and his former babysitter has a surprise for him. Tim remembers his birthdays before the age of seven with fondness and bittersweet nostalgia. Those days when his parents threw him excessive parties with kids bribed to attend are like a far-off memory. The birthdays after seven are better off forgotten and repressed into the depths of his mind. Deathstroke took over his birthday celebrations once he turned eight, and it’s been an on-going trauma ever since. One he thought he was finally freed from upon his fourteenth birthday and a noticeable lack of assassin. Then exactly one week before his birthday, Tim receives a text alert and almost throws his phone at the wall in panic. The time is almost here. I will be coming to get you for a day out. I have a present for you. Update your will. Just in case. Slade doesn’t say anything else, and Tim is left to hyperventilate under his bed in the dark. Glowing yellow eyes staring up at him, a birthday song being sung, black blood gushing from a headless body—no, don’t think about it Tim. He looks at the little glow-in-the-dark stars glued to the underside of his mattress and thinks of

He’s in his Red Robin uniform, and the sight of it brings his most recent memories into stark focus. He remembers the magician Nightwing and himself had been called in to help Batman and Robin apprehend. He remembers the snarl on the man’s face as he’d flung brightly colored spells around at random, equal parts furious and desperate after Robin had successfully relocated the hostage. He remembers a deep blue spell heading towards Nightwing’s unprotected back. He remembers stepping into the line of fire. - (Traveling back in time and meeting your younger self is something that can actually be so personal.)

"I did what had to be done." Batman said heavily, surveying the graveyard of rouges blankly. "It took years.""years that you could have spent fixing this." Tim insisted. "Have you even talked to them?""Can't." Batman growled, like it crawled up his throat, and Tim's heart squeezed. "Can't or won't?" Tim returned, extending his Bo. He'd never felt this sort of- this hatred."...Both." Batman admitted, shaking his head. "They wouldn't understand. Steph doesn't-"lava turned to ice in his veins, and he doesn't even remind himself to breathe. Its an ugly sort of anger, one that hurts in a way he doesn't like and can't stop, and the last time he was this angry-"Where is Steph."

It's never a good idea to torment yourself with what you can't have. Tim does it anyway.
