After the death of Jay Merrick, which he blames himself for, and the death of Alex Kralie, which he was directly responsible for, he chooses to live the secluded life he does to avoid hurting anyone else. When a random teenager from New Jersey turns up passed out in his garden, and a stranger in a mask appears in the rain outside his window, Tim realizes that he hadn't gotten away from the past and had only been hiding from it, and it may be up to him to stop the needless deaths of another group affected by the Operator.
