A few years have passed between the canon games and now. The Future Foundation has decided to clean up the remains of The Tragedy, but they don’t have the manpower or expertise. They decide to invite dozens of students they have handpicked to schools around the world that they have named “Future Heights.” After sending their talent scouts out, dozens of students are invited to enter the first class of the American Future Heights branch. Only 16 accept. These 16 students arrive with the sole thought that they will be living there peacefully, learning more than they ever would at home. However, the morning after their arrival, they find that they have been completely blocked off from the outside world seemingly overnight. Now stuck in a place that was supposed to be a haven to set them up for the future, these teens try to figure out a way to escape. But they’ve already been given one by the Misery Quintet: kill a fellow student in cold blood and get away with it. Indigo Escher, deemed the Ultimate Investigative Journalist, is determined to not let anyone die as they escape. But this is Danganronpa. Not everyone can survive. It’s a killing game, after all.
