Jason raised the bag, locking the door behind him. “Chili dog?” “Thanks,” Tim smiled, pulling himself up and making space for Jason to sit. Jason puttered around the kitchen, pouring them each a glass of water, handing the one without ice to Tim before settling in, placing his feet up on the table and passing Tim the messily wrapped chili dog. “What’s wrong?” Jason asked between mouthfuls. “You’ve got something on your mind.” Tim shook his head, swallowing thickly before setting his unfinished portion aside. “It’s nothing. I have an…event I have to attend this weekend in Bruce’s stead. Not looking forward to it.”

It was supposed to be over. People don’t – even Ra’s, who likes to think he knows everything, they don’t understand that the explosion that destroyed that warehouse wasn’t the Joker’s last fuck you. Oh, he wired the place, had it all ready just in case, but he was dead by the time everything went up in flames, his mouth still frozen on his last words – that wasn’t funny. No. It wasn’t him. It was Tim who set it off, cleansed the world of the Joker and Harley and their broken, fake house in their broken, fake world and their broken, fake son. That was supposed to be the end.Age Reversal AU, in which Tim is the Robin who dies and is reborn.

In which there’s someone asleep in the Batchair, everyone is sure they know who it is, and everyone is wrong. That’s what happens when so many people in your found family look so similar, I guess. The pranks are a side effect of the guano fumes, probably.

“His name is Terry,” Tim read from the note. “His parents can no longer care for him and I fear for his life without them. Keep him safe, Red Hood and Red Robin.” Jason's breath caught in his throat much as Tim's did at the end of the message. “What the everloving fuck?”

Bruce is dying. Slowly, painfully. Not going out in a blaze of glory and defiance for a greater purpose. He's caving under the weight of his own age, under the damage he's done to his heart through the years. Terry can't be by his side constantly to do damage control. More than that, he can't watch it happen with no reprieve. But there's no one else. ~Terry needs help keeping vigil by an ill Bruce's bedside. But the old man had kids once, didn't he? Are the bridges he burned unable to be rebuilt? As he observes, Terry definitely starts to wonder how this family used to be.

Deep down though, Tim thinks he has always known that there is only one way to get rid of Junior. He needs to kill him and there is only one way that Junior's death can be guaranteed. If Junior is going to die, Tim needs to as well. And Tim could never admit it out loud, or even think it to himself, but the last few days have been spent accommodating himself to that idea more so than anything else. All the other ideas are just a distraction, because he doesn't want to die, but the other options are, in the grand scheme of things, inconsequential. They just won’t do.
