Back in the days when her problems consisted entirely of a silly crush and the school crunch, she toyed with the idea of telling Becky. Even a second of considering the consequences was always enough to tell her no, she couldn’t, because she might lose what she had. This is enough, she would tell herself. It can be, it has to be. It was her mantra all through college and after: a running thread from the moment she felt her feelings stir in her breast, through the day she first met Dan, and through and after the week she received their wedding invitation and had to pretend she wasn’t withering away inside. In which Hunter catches a bag, a truck driver is a little more curious, and some long-quashed feelings come to light.

She was beautiful, after all. Becky's eyes opened halfway in the barely lit room to lazily study Hunter's features and the long blonde hair that spilled out onto the pillow. Beautiful. And then the bitter thought slipped through, Dan must've thought so too. Becky involuntarily scowled and closed her eyes once more. She inched herself even closer. --- Guess who found a backup file for a fic they wrote three and a half years ago and thought they lost forever.

The snow was a dull colour against the light blue, monotone colour of the walls. One. Four. Three. Them would never tell the other what the numbers meant or what they symbolised, them just gently, ever so lightly tapped it into the others chest.~Or, Hunter and Becky have a code. (It’s all third person, but viewing Hunter mostly)
