Triton never let him near his friends… or even know their names. For a while, Percy was convinced he just didn’t have any. That certainly made more sense than him being friends with someone as nice as Ridley. “Why?” he asked, and Triton’s eyes narrowed. “King Poseidon paid me to,” Ridley told him. Ah. Percy figured he was joking but gave an understanding nod anyway. Triton pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’m guessing I’m needed at the banquet?” he asked him, and Triton gave a slight nod. “Very well, Lord Perseus,” he nodded. Oh. There was a banquet? That at least explained why nobody was back from their duties yet… Did this mean he had to be bored another three hours? Not that he would have enjoyed the banquet. Percy studies the outline of Chicago. What was once a beautiful lively city is now a deadly, haunted wasteland. Percy doesn’t dare go within earshot of the city, and risk alerting it's 3 million undead population. His sword fighting skills have served him well, so far however even he knows that he can’t take on 3 million at the same time, and hope to live. Probably. Well, there’s no sense in moping over it. Percy shoulders his pack and goes to move on ward, when he smells something in the air. Smoke. Percy wonders if the undead have managed to set themselves on fire. It wouldn’t be the first time. However, in the back of his mind, a quiet, hopeful voice says that it could be another human. Percy hasn’t seen another human or demigod in over three weeks. Another part of his mind whispers that it could be a trap set by a monster. It definitely wouldn’t be the first time they’ve tried that. Even before this undead apocalypse, monsters tricked Percy, made him hear and see things that weren’t there. Percy knows that he should keep walking. However, the chance of seeing another demi-god, or even a rare, unturned human is too much to turn up. Percy follows the smoke.

He’d obviously discovered that he could breath underwater and that the cold didn’t bother him that much but other than that?He’d learned from a few trusted sources (read: Annabeth) that most Atlanteans, -including his brother Triton-, had a tail, or even two tails in some cases.And Percy? Well, he didn’t. Which probably left him at a pretty big disadvantage. It didn’t sit right with him, especially because he knew that his underwater-family might not like him all that much, after-all his Dad did cheat on his wife with his mom, so… Awkward.Which is why, when Poseidon offered him a tail for his visit, he was ecstatic. Like, how cool is it to turn into a mermaid -man-, whatever, even if it’s only for a short period of time. Obviously he wanted a tail.Or:Swimming with a tail is a lot harder than expected and Triton helps out
