It turns out that even if you are an immortal being, the human body can’t keep going on forever. Merlin discovers a few hundred years after Arthur’s death that his body is beginning to break down. He uses a spell to begin replacing body parts with enchanted metal, using a glamour to hide his modifications. When Arthur returns, Merlin is fully convinced that he is a monster and vows to never let Arthur know. The energy it takes to keep up the glamour, however, is taking its own toll on Merlin’s health and mental state. Can Arthur’s affection convince Merlin to allow him in, or will Merlin continue to try to handle everything on his own?
