Living in the same world—hell, living in the same country—as the Avengers affects Mal far less than an average person. The Avengers are the good guys, after all. Her? She’s just trying to run the Western Hemisphere’s criminal element without getting stabbed in the back. Unfortunately, her activities don’t exactly go over SHIELD’s head, though she wishes they would, and now she’s stuck working for a government that she’s never really believed in, much less cared about. But rescue enough people, prevent enough disasters, foil enough dastardly plans, and anyone will start thinking differently. In Mal’s case, she’s confused.
