The piece of paper is tacked to a telephone pole near where you live. You see it on accident. ‘Adult demon, damaged. Price negotiable.’Staring at the black and white lettering makes you feel vaguely sick. You look away. Ignoring something like this is for the best, after all. But the thought keeps nudging at the back of your mind for the rest of the day. It won’t leave you alone. The word damaged echoes in your skull on loop until you can’t take it anymore. Even if it’s just to sate your guilty conscience, you’re going to have to do something. Surely, the demon has been bought already. Even if you look into it, there’ll be nothing to find. . . . Pet Au. Reader rescues Demon!Kyoujurou from being put down.

The demon is looking at you like you’re going to kill him. Or like he’s about ready to try to kill you. He’s an ugly one, one of them that doesn’t resemble a person much at all beyond his general shape. Deathly pale skin covered in thick, night-sky blue stripes, close-shorn hair, and huge, unblinking eyes with sclera like shattered glass. He’s not very big, but the way he’s hunched in the corner isn’t from fear. That’s pure tension. What you read in the paperwork was horrifying. This demon is from a fight ring— one of the worst known yet. The conditions there were so brutal that they’d been shut down in a second, no chance to defend the brawls. . . . Reader tries to rehabilitate Akaza straight out of one fucked-up fight ring. It doesn't go well.

Trashcans and alleyways have become his friends, as of late. Gyuutarou is getting used to huddling up in the shadows of dumpsters when it rains or when the sun shines so brightly it makes his skin blister and burn to be exposed to it for long. It doesn’t fix anything, not really, but it helps. And alleyways are just as kind. People, real people don’t go down them often. The dirtiest, darkest ones are where a demon can hide the easiest and not be found. Lurking in their shadows during the day and creeping puddle-ridden, filthy streets at night in search of food and new, safer places to stay has become Gyuutarou’s life since he got thrown out.. . . Pet Au. Reader rescues Gyuutarou from living on his own.

So now, Giyuu has spent the better part of the evening and night trudging through inches of snow with bare feet and nothing more than his worn-thin clothes to protect him from the cold. Snowflakes swirl in the wind around him. He can’t stop shaking. He can’t feel his hands anymore. Reminding himself that he won’t die isn’t helping. It doesn’t make the situation any better. He’s scared, and no amount of living will change the fact that he’s likely to wind up curled up in a snowdrift, so cold he can’t move, and losing more and more skin to frostbite and the endless chill. He can’t heal like this. It hurts. Just moving is getting difficult. Even so, he forces himself to keep going. He has to find some kind of shelter. No matter how much it hurts, stopping means hurting all the worse for being exposed to the elements. It’s just a little bit more. Just a bit.. . . Pet Au. Demon!Giyuu is rescued by Reader after being kicked out in a snowstorm.

The first thing you’re expecting is that you’ve got stupid kids playing some kind of prank or starting trouble, so you storm into the barn in a huff, ready to catch a teenager crawling into somewhere he shouldn’t. You slam the door open and adjust your grip on your shovel, thoroughly ready to be scary. But instead of some dumb kid, the muddy footprints lead back into the darkest part of the barn, where there aren’t any windows. You flick on the lights... and hear a quiet whine from deep in the back corner. That’s. Not normal. And definitely not the sound of a malicious trespasser. “Alright, who’s in here?” you call out into the still air. “Better come out now. You’re on my land, you know, and trespassing isn’t welcome.”No answer. Fine. You’ll go find out who it is on your own. . . . Pet Au. Obanai and Mitsuri, on the run from their old owner, find a new home.

Your aunt’s boyfriend swears and yells at his son to go ‘shut the damn thing up already’, which ends in rolled eyes, a sigh from your aunt, and your ‘cousin’ storming out back. “...what was that?” you dare to ask. You probably don’t want to know. “Oh, just that thing your uncle brought home a few months ago.” She takes a gulp of her own drink, looking annoyed. “It’s a demon, one of those fancy pets, you know? He thought it’d be a good guard dog, but it won’t listen to anyone. Thank god he didn’t spend much on it.”. . . Pet Au. Reader saves a feral Inosuke from a nasty situation, and tries to make things work.

The places where demons fight aren’t meant for anyone to come out alive. They’re not supposed to happen. The kinds of brutal, tearing each other to shreds brawls that go down in fight rings are deemed inhumane by even the species that owns them like property. But, so long as the owner keeps quiet enough, no one will stop them. No one will shut it down. Sanemi’s body is covered in scars. He can hardly remember a time when it wasn’t. He hurts, hurts, hurts more often than not, but he’s gotten so used to it that the absence of pain is almost worse than its presence. Pain is comforting, in a way. It means he survived. It means he’s still alive. . . . Pet Au. Sanemi is rescued from a fight ring and has to deal with the realities of a more normal life.

You’re expecting this ‘gift’ to be something like a hastily made batch of cupcakes or something equally simple and last-minute. So you invite her over as cheerfully as you can manage when you don’t particularly care, and promise that you’ll be there to take the present. The next afternoon arrives. There’s a knock on your door just as you’re expecting. Time to accept whatever tray of cupcakes or cheap jewelry your friend felt like giving you, get it over with, and go back to your day. But when you open the door and your friend steps inside, what she has in her hand isn’t baked goods.. . . Pet Au. Reader gets a very traumatized Demon!Zenitsu as an unwanted "gift".
