Binding in itself was a serious commitment, the strongest, unbreakable kind of bond there was. Usually two creatures of the same element were the easiest to bind. Earth, water, fire, wind, metal and wood; if they were of the same element and could accept each other, the bond would snap through, true. But with two creatures of disparate elements, there was a greater chance that the elements would resist each other, resist binding and reject the connection, leaving the two creatures walking away with nothing but broken hope. And no one knew beforehand if that would be them. Like Steve and Bucky didn’t know if that would be them. or: Steve and Bucky are getting bonded to each other and Tony stumbles in.

Ashton shrieked, voice filled with panic as harsh gasps crossed through the connection. Kenny shot to his feet, tripping over the part of the blanket on the floor. "Ashton?!" Kenny asked, only to hear a broken sob on the other end of the line. "Ashton! What's going on?!""Kenny!" Token's voice rang out from the phone, just as freaked out as Kenny felt, "We need to get to Ashton's house, now!"---Kenny knew they were too old to honestly wander around like kids playing a superhero game, but he supposed the adults in this town were so fucked up they went along with it anyway. What he hadn't expected was to come across a new hero in the fray- a hero with actual powers, like him. A hero on Cartman's side, going by the name Umbra.Even more than that, he didn't expect a mission looking for a missing cat would become this dangerous.With South Park needing actual heroes, a rival that made his stomach twist, and the New Kid making his heart throb and head go crazy, Kenny knew the next couple of weeks would be interesting.

The one where Cas breaks a wing. PLATONIC version of the sequel to Forgotten. (This fic "Broken" is the platonic version of the Destiel fic "Flight" - exact same fic and 95% the exact same text, just without the Destel.) A/U from mid S9; Castiel is human and wounded, and Dean and Sam need to get his grace back - and his wings. Things do not go as intended and Cas faces a difficult road. NO SLASH but super-strong emphasis on TFW friendship/family bonds. Hurt Castiel + hurt/comfort, leading (as Cas recovers) into a long plotty case fic with road trips, canon-type action, and exciting big baddies. Also features my stupidly elaborate headcanon on angels, wings, and flight, and the return of Schmidt-Nielsen's "The Physiology of Angels." :)

It’s simple really; if you want to extinguish a fire there are several ways to accomplish this. You can douse the flames with water, usually the simplest and most effective method. If you’re trying to limit damage to a person or thing you might smother the flames with dirt or a heavy blanket. Though the most effective way, if someone were to ask Bilbo’s opinion… which of course no one ever did, was to suffocate the flame. To draw out the vital oxygen which fuelled the flames until they ceased to exist. It was a particularly painful yet effective way to kill a spark but Bilbo knew it to be most effective. The other thing Bilbo Baggins knew, without a doubt, was that you could not fight a fire with even more fire. Some might argue that you could use strategic burning to control the spread of flames but it was not a guarantee that you would not end up with multiple fires or one overwhelming storm of flames on your hands. No, fight fire with yet more fire was a useless endeavour which is exactly what Bilbo told Gandalf the Grey when he delivered thirteen Dwarves and a mission to Slay a Fire Drake on his dining table one evening in some kind of sick joke.
