The question ‘Afghanistan or Iraq?’, etched out in a deep baritone, is seared into his brain. The moments when life gets too big, too long and too hard, he thinks of that simple question which changed his life. Sherlock had changed his life is more ways than one; he’d given him hope for his life, a home for a few years, a best friend and a godfather for his daughter. He’d given him less lovely things, too: two years of debilitating grief, truths about his wife (though he’s unsure if he’s happy about that knowledge or not), a bit more danger than his ageing heart might be able to handle and piles and piles of regret. Maybe it was the guilt that drove him here now, but maybe it was the other, unnameable thing… something he has yet to admit to himself. Something that causes his body to heat whenever Sherlock looks at him, the sparks of desire every time Sherlock touches him, the constant pull to be near him which had reached a painful stretch tonight.

Even she was a fool in her youth, but she should not have been, and the knowledge that she cannot undo that eats away at the very core of her being. Or, what started as several thousand words of von Karma siblings backstory and feels turned into a retelling of Justice for All from Franziska's perspective, featuring missing scenes and character study.
