Mike's jaw drops and he sits up to face where Will (assumedly) is, “You’re haunting me?” “I guess?” Mike can imagine Will looking off to the side, scratching his cheek self-consciously. He places his hands on Will’s shoulders, turning the other to look at him. He definitely looks stupid – his eyes closed while simultaneously trying to stare at Will intently. “So you’ve been following me around this whole year?” “Um. Yes?” He groans, pressing the heels of his palms to his eyes. “Holy shit.” “Holy shit.” Will echoes. Or; Mike struggles with wanting things he can never have - like Will back alive. Even after he gets it, he still wants more.

What's worse: being tormented by violent visions from Vecna or suffering from the mixed signals of Mike Wheeler? Depends on the day for Will Byers. Flashbacks of shared touches from last summer and the impending doom about the night to come have Will's head spinning as the party enter the Upside Down to enact Operation Beanstalk. Meanwhile, Mike Wheeler navigates his anxiety about the hellscape he's in and crashes out over the thought that Will had a crush on him and has since moved on. OR Mike walks over to him, reaching out his hand next to Will’s, enhancing the bulb’s flickering into a steady pulse. Their fingers brush, and the sensation sends a buzz of nerves up Will’s arm. Will lets himself savor it, thinking of Robin’s words. Signals. I’m going to die anyway, he thinks, letting himself keep his arm outstretched a few moments more. He isn’t looking at the lamp anymore though; Mike bends over, inches away, and Will’s gaze is the ocean tides to the moon in Mike’s eyes. Will tucks the stolen glance away, safe in the vault where he’s kept moments like this over the years and follows Mike’s gaze towards where his is fixated.

“It was a seven.”“Huh?”“The roll, it was a seven.”Inspired by the FLICKERGATE theory that is taking Byler Tumblr by storm right now.Following the events of Season Four, Mike and Will find themselves trapped in the Upside Down at Mike's house where the world is paused the day Will went missing. The world is crumbling all around them, and the boys discover that the very last night they were together before Will vanished back in 1983 is playing out right in front of them. They can hear the voices of their eleven-year old selves from the other side, and they follow the sounds out into the garage where we witness a younger Will tell the truth to Mike about his D&D roll. But just as Will showed he cannot lie to Mike back in 1983, he succumbs to the truth four years later as well. In a heartfelt exchange, this direct callback to Season One, Episode One reveals not only the truth, but the fact that Mike and Will's secret feelings have been reciprocated this entire time.

Scared of what they mean, he pushes them away from him, until he maybe, just maybe, can pretend that everything is normal between them. That is, until the nightmares come true and Mike must confront what he truly, actually feels for his best friend if they ever want to make it out alive. Featuring: Jealous Mike Wheeler in denial, forced proximity in the Upside Down, Mike getting Vecna's curse and coming to some realizations (+ Mike & Nancy sibling relationship). This is my way of coping with pre-Vol.2 Byler doubt, enjoy!

Tell El I said bye.” “I will. Bye Will!” Will lowers the antenna and turns off the walkie-talkie with a loud sigh. He’s never minded being on his own but he hates being left alone.
