Together
by BatuuPrincess
As their time on Yavin 4 ends, Rey and Poe look ahead. Together **Author's Note:** > My last May 4th fic (and only 7 days late). Rey sat perched in Poe’s lap, the two trading lazy kisses under the Force tree. Over the past year, this had become their spot, a haven against prying eyes and nosy rebels. It was the first place he’d taken her on Yavin, the first place they kissed, the first place they tried… some other stuff. And now it would be the place they said goodbye. It wasn’t the first time they’d said goodbye - there had been a number of missions that required Poe’s expertise elsewhere in the galaxy, and Rey was frequently off-planet on Jedi business - but it could well be their last. Their time on Yavin 4 had come to an end. It had been a long time coming. In fact, Poe was shocked that they had been left alone for this long, the past year becoming a sort of respite from the war, a time to rebuild and recharge. Sure, there had been the odd skirmish and a whole hell of a lot of spying, but for the most part they had enjoyed an uneasy detente with the First Order. But there had been reports of a gathering darkness, an evil so great that even Kylo Ren and his band of idiots were concerned. So Leia had dispatched them to Tatooine to get information from one of the last remaining Hutts. Understandably, Leia wouldn’t be joining them on this mission. The General was taking a less and less active role in the reborn Resistance. In her absence, Poe had stepped up, taking a bigger role in leadership. It had been a surprise to no one but himself that he was actually good at it, drawing on those hard lessons learned before and after Crait to gather their flagging forces and rebuild a fraction of what they had lost. Those losses still ate at him, the faces of his lost friends (and let’s be honest, practically family) keeping him up at night. On the bad nights, Rey would hold him, carding her fingers through his hair while she hummed the soft songs his mom used to sing to him. He’d never asked where she learned them, but it had Kes written all over it. “Yavin 4 to Poe Dameron. Everything ok in there?” He blinked twice, Rey’s voice breaking him out of his thoughts. There was a slight furrow to her brow as she pushed a stray curl off his forehead, looking at him expectantly. Wait, hadn’t they been kissing? “Sorry,” he said, pressing his lips to hers. “I must have spaced out there.” “You don’t say.” Her lips quirked up in a sweet smile, bright pink and a little swollen from his earlier ministrations. Rey had been a revelation. He’d spent the last year watching her go from a feral little scavenger to a true Jedi. Gone were the hair trigger and the tendency to kick ass first, ask questions later, replaced with calm determination and an unflappable will. Skywalker. That’s who she was now, Rey Skywalker, a nobody no more. Though, she was never nobody to him, even before the titles and the names and the greater purpose. A thousand generations lived on in her, the last of the Jedi Order. And she had chosen him. She was smiling at him, and from this vantage point, he could count every freckle on her face, a little faded now that she was out of the Jakku sun. Absently, he wondered if Tatooine would bring them out in full force. “What are you thinking about?” She nudged his nose with her own. They both knew she could find out easily enough, but she never would, not without permission. “You,” he answered honestly. He made a point to always tell her the truth, something few people in her life (up to now) had ever done. “Why a beautiful Jedi would spend any time at all with a scruffy pilot like me. Whether the suns on Tatooine will bring out your freckles.” He watched as twin spots of color crept across her cheeks, knowing from experience that he could follow the blush down her neck until it disappeared under her shirt. With a heavy sigh, he let out his next breath. “And that Finn and Chewie are probably waiting for us on the Falcon.” She let out an exaggerated groan, burying her face in his neck. “But I don’t want to go.”

A Thousand Generations
by BatuuPrincess
After arriving on Yavin 4, Poe takes Rey to the Force tree. For the May the Fourth prompt: Rey sees the Force Tree for the first time. A Thousand Generations “No, you gotta keep them closed.” Rey sighed, watching as Poe practically vibrated with excitement in front of her. His never-ending enthusiasm was endearing, if a little tiring. “If my eyes are closed, how will I see where I’m going?” Poe held out his hand. “That’s easy, I’ll lead you.” They had barely been on Yavin 4 for a full cycle, the entirety of their Resistance crammed into Kes Dameron’s house. It was a tight fit, but being the last best hope of the galaxy had its perks, one of which was a private room. In fact, Poe had insisted she take his childhood bedroom. “Poe, I couldn’t,” she’d said when he offered it to her, her eyes roaming across the band posters on the walls and the shelves filled with small trinkets and holo-novels. It was a veritable shrine to the young Poe Dameron, untouched since he’d left Yavin 4. “You should be able to sleep in your own bed.” Poe shook his head. “The couch will do just fine. Our Jedi should have her privacy.” There was something about Poe Dameron. He seemed to just know things about her, understand her in a way that made no sense for how little time she’d known him. It was like he recognized that after growing up alone on Jakku, the thought of being around other beings around the clock made her nervous to the point of distraction. That this room would provide her a solace that she hadn’t dared hoped for when she joined the Resistance. Out on the grass with Poe now, she realized with a jolt that she trusted him, closing her eyes and taking his hand. She should be used to it by now. Poe was affectionate by nature, and he showed that affection through touch - a squeeze of the hand, a pat on the back, a brief hug when something went really right. He was a little more careful around her - another insight she couldn’t quite explain - like he knew she wasn’t used to that much familiarity. But every time he touched her, it felt like that time she hit a live wire on the Falcon with a pilex driver: a not-entirely unpleasant zap that left her fingers tingling for hours. As promised, he led her through the grass, warning her every so often about uneven ground or a rock in her path. They finally stopped when they hit some shade, the sudden lack of sun on her skin bringing up gooseflesh. “You can open your eyes.” It took her a minute to adjust, the small clearing coming into focus. It looked much like every other part of this jungle moon she’d seen so far, with one exception. Standing in the middle of the clearing was a tall tree, its brown bark standing out among the surrounding massassi trees. It called to her, a whisper of a song she’d only heard once before on Ahch-To. But that tree had been long dead, a hollowed out version with only a fraction of the power she felt now. “It’s a…” she trailed off, her words more breath than actual sound. “Force tree,” Poe finished for her, a smile playing across his lips. Rey turned, not trying to keep the confusion or wonder off her face. “But how? I thought these were all destroyed.” “My mom helped Luke track down two clippings back in the day. He gave her one as a thank you.” Poe shrugged like it was no big deal, like everyone’s mothers went on missions with Luke Skywalker and returned with magic trees. “Go on.” He nodded toward the tree, as if giving her permission. Her stomach flipped as she walked toward it, nerves threatening to get the better of her. Both times she had touched something this powerful in the Force, they had thrown her into visions both terrifying and incomprehensible. Reaching toward the tree with her eyes closed, she expected nothing but more of the same. Instead, when her palm touched bark, a calm settled over her. It reminded her of the words she said to Leia on the Falcon. Peace and purpose. Opening her eyes, she found herself back on Ahch-To, the cool wind tugging at her clothes. She looked up to find Luke sitting across from her. He looked younger than when she’d last saw him, his hair and beard not yet gray. “You found it,” he said, a smile touching his eyes. “The Force tree. Everything is falling into place.” “What are you talking about? What’s falling into place?” He looked at her with a fondness that had never been there in life. In fact, she couldn’t remember a single time he had looked at her with less than a scowl on that face. “A thousand generations live on in you. The last of the Jedi Order.”

Take Root
by starlight_and_seafire
She thinks this must have been her path. This must have been her destiny. Everything has led her here. Finally, she knows there is solid ground beneath her feet, nothing so changeable as sand that shifts at the slightest movement or gets whipped up into a frenzy as a storm circles overhead and threatens her into submission, but like she has roots that go as deep as the Force Tree itself, tying her – not unwillingly – both to people and a place. Take Root **Author's Note:** > On tumblr, Damerey Connection posted an amazing list of Force related writing prompts for their May the Fourth celebration. > > I’ve done a wedding under the Force Tree in “The Path Before Us” and a story along the lines of Force visions/the Force ships it in “What the Eyes Can’t See (Yet)” back in October for Damerey Week. > > But since it’s pretty clear that I’m obsessed with the Force Tree, I couldn’t resist revisiting it for this story to show the first time she sees it (and several times thereafter) . . . and maybe with a touch of the Force shipping it and Leia recognizing their feelings first. > > Hope you enjoy! In the aftermath of Crait, they flee and run and bounce around from one planet to another, searching for safety, for security, for a place to regroup and rebuild. She figures it was Leia’s idea but doesn’t know for sure. She assumes there were discussions, but she never saw the debate or the hushed communiques to the people on the ground or the ultimate decision, too distracted by the lessons she had learned – was still learning – about the Force and her place in it. Instead, she only saw the way Poe, the normally gregarious, kind, _warm_ man, had suddenly become a shade more somber at the news, as if something weighed a little heavier on his shoulders now. When Leia gave her the coordinates, she punched them into the Falcon’s computer and set course for Yavin IV. \-- A short time later, she’s piloting the Falcon down to the warm, almost overwhelmingly green planet. It’s an easy landing, made even easier with Chewie’s sure and steady hands assisting in the co-pilot seat. She’s grateful for the Wookie’s presence, as a part of her is distracted by the man standing behind them both. She can’t help but watch the way Poe gazes out the viewport absolutely enraptured by his surroundings, the heaviness escaping as he heaves out a deep breath, only for it to be replaced with something warm and light and almost unnamable to her. He’s the first one off the ship, running straight into the arms of a middle-aged man with silvering hair at his temples. The man might be older, but he’s still clearly strong and hardy. His body evidences years of hard work and toil, but the good kind, one borne of hearty meals and good honest labor. The man might be older, but he is clearly Poe’s father, with the same warm smile and kind eyes and solidness to him as his son. She only heard Poe talk about him once, in a whispered conversation late one night when her and Finn and Poe were sitting hidden in some little alcove on the Falcon. Now, she watches Poe with the older man, and while the physical resemblance is there, there’s more. Hidden just beneath the surface there are ties between them that speaks of _family_. She wants to stand there and examine those threads, turn them over and over in her mind until she thinks she might finally understand it, to finally figure out those connections that mean family. But there’s not time for that. Not yet. The rest of the Resistance’s forces, people and beings cobbled together from across the galaxy, land in the same clearing that the Falcon now sits in. She pays little mind to them, instead following Leia and the handful of others who were on the ship with them down the ramp until she finally feels the solid ground of Yavin IV beneath her feet. She nudges the dirt with a single booted foot. She takes a deep breath in and fully opens herself up to the Force around her. It feels like the start of something. She thinks that maybe it feels like an ending, too. \-- Rey can’t get enough of all the green. Whenever she can, she spends her time outside, her eyes drinking in her surroundings, wondering if it will ever be _enough_. She meditates while sitting amongst the dense foliage, letting the Force flow in and through her, feeling it set her senses alive and letting it calm her down. She trains in the open fields, scampers up the trees, runs along the mountain terrain. Sometimes Finn will join her outside to train, or Rose will when she’s working on the ships, or Poe when she’s meditating and exploring. Sometimes it’s a combination of all three or even others, and every time she welcomes them, welcomes them to join her amongst all the green. She’s learning how _to be_ amongst these people even as she learns the ways of the Force and how it moves through all this life that surrounds her. The surroundings speak to her as nothing else ever has. But still, there is something else that calls to her. And now, it’s time. They’ve been there two weeks before she takes Poe up on his offer to show her the tree. Leia had mentioned it once, briefly, while they were travelling amongst the stars, but Poe’s the one who had explained it to her, had told her all about it until it had turned from some powerful, galaxy-wide metaphor into something more personal. He guides her down the winding paths leading away from the Dameron compound until they reach a clearing, the darker light of the forest giving way to something more, something almost uncanny. The bright sunshine illuminates a tree that seems to give off its own glow, something blue and green and almost otherworldly.

After Crait, sometimes her visions came to her with a sudden, sparkling clarity, so vividly real, like she could reach out and touch them.
