Back on the Zephyr after saving her seven-year-old self from Chronicoms intent on erasing Quake from existence, Daisy is a bit distanced from the rest of the team. Deke takes it upon himself to talk to her, in typical Deke fashion. A companion piece to Forever’s Already Started (you just don’t know it yet), but can be read separately.

Unloveable. All her life she’s thought it meant unable to be loved, but now she knows it’s something entirely different. Skye or Daisy or whoever she is now is a person who shouldn’t be loved, because few enough people want to anyway and anyone who’s ever tried it has ended up dead. So she closes up that part of herself, locks it down and runs away from S.H.I.E.L.D. and anyone else who might get hurt by association with Daisy Johnson. It’s safer for everyone that way. (A.K.A. The Daisy/Deke Soul-mark AU that absolutely no one asked for, but I wrote anyway because the circumstances of their first meeting just fit it so, so well.)

He presses the button beside the door to his bunk and immediately shields his eyes from the bright lights of the cramped hallway outside, stumbling out and hearing it shut behind him. His eyes are still adjusting as he makes his way to the common area, only for his feet to bring him directly to medical instead for some reason. He spies Daisy’s prone form through two panes of glass as he hovers outside the door. Yeah, no reason at all.

Her eyes flash up to his. “Don’t tell me to go back in the healing pod.” “I wasn’t going to!” Deke says with something that is half-grin, half-yelp. “I know by now telling you not to do something is like telling a Kreeper blue’s not his color.”
