“No,” is all Tony can say with another dry swallow. Happens a lot when he’s especially anxious. Who knew that simply speaking to an eleven-year-old could trigger such a reaction? Peter cocks a brow and asks Tony why he’s here. And Tony blurts out the first thing that comes to mind. Peter looks at him confusedly in response and asks, “Why would you want to replace my glasses?”---Tony has almost nothing to look forward to. Nothing to drive him. Nothing to move him. He's stuck in a funk, living day-to-day, the horrors of his past and the realities of his present bearing down on him harder and harder with each passing day; his mind coming up with new ways to belittle him every day. That is, of course, until he meets a baby-faced kid with a proclivity towards scientific advancement. And, suddenly, things don't seem too bad anymore. Shame Tony can't really understand why.

“. . . You look comfortable.” Despite having stared in his general direction, Shinsou startled at his voice. Hizashi liked to think he wasn’t the most intimidating pro hero—and he was proud of his consecutive “#3 Kid-Friendly Pro” title—but Shinsou’s expression tightened and shuttered when he stepped into view. Hizashi scanned his students’ face, emotions swirling at the bruises and cuts. He wondered how long Shinsou had been there, curled and shivering against a metal trashcan. “You don’t have to lie,” Shinsou rasped out a moment later. Hizashi didn’t like the sound of his voice, either. “I know I . . . look like shit, sensei.” “Language,” Hizashi half-heartedly corrected. It was an impulse, at this point. Hizashi decided to investigate when a flustered intern talked about “some teen” sleeping in the alleyway beside the station. He hadn’t expected to find his introverted student, Shinsou Hitoshi—but he couldn’t say he wished the night had gone differently.

“Mitsue might insult us, or laugh at us when we fall, or think we’ll lose regardless of our effort,” Katsuragi says, ruthless and uncaring that Kanako is, in fact, hearing everything he says, “but she’s, like—,” “A stray cat you feed even though your mother tells you not to,” adds Futsu. When the team stares at him, he bristles. “What? I’m right!” “Unfortunately,” says Kanako. “Like I said before,” says Ameno; infuriating as ever. “Mascot.” Mitsue's presence at the soft tennis boys' team is quite perplexing for some.

It wasn't a cliche brochure that made Shouta book the trip, but, rather, Hitoshi, who asked if he could have a watermelon-flavored icicle for dinner. The answer had been no, much to the Little's dismay, but it did make Shouta remember it was summer, and they were long overdue for a vacation. Or: a series of drabbles responding to a week of summer themed prompts.

“I can’t go on,” said Noctis, and he slapped a palm against the ground because he’s dramatic and the cool dirt feels nice on his skin. “Tell Prompto I love him.” Gladio laughed. “Not gonna say goodbye to your old man?” “He’s the reason I’m out here, so he’s getting written out of my will.” Noctis is not one for camping, or hiking, or anything that doesn’t involve three of his favorite things: sleep, fishing, and Prompto. Unfortunately, Gladio is of the opinion that he needs to get some “actual fresh air for once” and, unfortunately, his father agrees.

When Tav discovers the location of the Gondian hostages, it’s hardly a question whether or not she will stage a righteous, possibly suicidal jailbreak. Astarion doesn’t even bother to try and talk her out of this one; he is intimately familiar with the way Tav clenches her jaw when she’s decided to save someone or die trying, and once she’s made up her mind about it, there’s not much use in trying to sway her. So, Astarion is a little more than surprised to see Tav actually hesitating on the catwalk above the submersible. It’s such an unexpected discovery that he nearly forgets to be concerned about it. In which Tav has reservations about going down to the Iron Throne and Astarion finds his courage. Oneshot, complete.
