lock my soul (and keep the key with you)

by ColorfulWarlock

Everyone has a soulmate. At midnight of one’s 10th birthday, a golden locket will appear around their neck. The locket is called soul medallion, and inside it there is a picture of that person’s soulmate, but it can only be opened when a certain condition is met. Engraved on the locket there is a rule. If obeyed, the locket will open. Each person receives a different rule, and the tricky part is that it’s not clear who has to act on it – the owner of the locket or their soulmate – or even how.  So, if the rule states ‘First touch’, it’s impossible to know who has to touch who first or where. ‘First word’ from who? It’s so messy, many people don’t even try and forgo their own soulmate. It’s said that fate must be understood for true love to be earned. At last, when the soulmate dies, the locket becomes gray and the picture inside it turns into ashes.

A Photograph Shouldnt Be

by WhiteHotBlueFlame

Everyone received a closed locket at birth. Believing that happiness was the first step to health, the world health organization mandated that soulmate lockets be given to all people, and countries followed the order without question. Invented by an Australian scientist, the locket, once clasped around the owner’s neck, remained closed until the owner was ready, only opening when they met their soulmate. An open locket was a sight that was revered and celebrated. Laura's always wondered who would be in her locket.

She instantly let out a breath, closing her fist around the locket. “Thanks, Clint.” He nodded. “Neat idea by the way,” he continued mindlessly. “Keeping the ring inside of it, that way you won’t lose it on missions. Where’d you get it from anyway?” Natasha was sweating slightly, unusual since she was such a well-trained liar. “Pawn shop?” It was obvious to everyone in the room that the woman was nervous, but they all chose not to comment on it, knowing she was fully within her right mind to strangle them. Clint nodded. “Cool.” His mouth said he suspected nothing, but when he looked into her eyes a moment later, they said something different. He shot her a look, as if saying 'I know'. She swallowed and went to retrieve a new chain from her jewelry box.---In which Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff have been married for five years, unbeknownst to their team. They finally decide to tell everyone.
