Red White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston
by mainstreamelectricalparade
Before he can attempt to turn his attention back to his own work, Henry’s eye catches on a dark pencil mark on Alex’s worksheet. It’s safe to assume it was left there when Alex’s pencil fell out of his hand, due to the random placement and the line being much darker and thicker than anything else on the page. Normally, Henry would ignore something like that — it’s not his worksheet, after all — but in this particular instance (and he has no idea what possesses him to do it) he reaches over to Alex’s side of the desk, pencil in hand, and turns the random black line into a tiny doodle of a flower. When he retracts his hand back to his own side of the desk, it dawns on him that he’s just doodled a flower on someone else’s paper, and he doesn’t even really know the person the paper belongs to.
(What the bloody buggering fuck, Henry.)
OR: Five times Henry and Alex passed notes to communicate, plus one time they talked out loud.
