Lewis had brought a blanket, laid it out against the hot sand, and relaxed. Charles had rolled up his trousers— an awful pair of baggy light blue jeans, but he seemed happy wearing them, so Lewis didn't comment. Charles was standing in the sea, water halfway up his shins, head tilted back with his eyes closed as the sun beat down on him. He lifted up his arms, spread wide, and took in a deep breath. Lewis watched, saw the way the stress melted away, saw a side of Charles he had never intended to see. Yet there they were. In the middle of nowhere in America. On some random tiny beach.
