Magnus Bane’s throne is the colour of blood.It rises from the ground fully formed the day Magnus descends into Edom, gold eyes bright, indigo magic impossibly stark against the reds and oranges of the desert. He holds his head high as he crossed the sand, barely sparing a glance for the demons that hiss at the sight of him. One breaks from the voyeurist cluster, scrambles before the warlock and raises its hackles. The half-breed has no right to be here, to stride so imperiously through their home, towards their king. The demon’s throat has not yet ended its rumble before Magnus flicks his hand and sends the creature flying into a nearby oasis of molten glass. His footfalls do not hesitate for the screams.

The thought not really making sense in his brain. Did time in Edom really pass so differently? When he’d tried to get back he hadn’t been thinking that for everyone it would be like he’d risen from the dead. He’d thought he was gonna go back home, to his Alexander, and his friends, and they would try to make everything go back to normal and… Then the realization hit him.'Alexander, how is Alexander?’ He asked pinning his eyes to her face.

She just stares off into the distance for what feels like hours, and Alec can barely look at her, waiting, because she has every right to send him away, and he wouldn’t blame her if she did.“Why did you call?” she asks instead, her voice barely held together, even though her expression is trained into a neutral mask, something Alec recognizes very well.“I found a spell book that might help, but I can’t read all of it, and I obviously can’t perform any of it,” Alec says, handing Catarina the book. “I was hoping you could help me.”“Do what exactly?”“Get to Edom.”

The second they turned back from Edom, Alec knew that there were a lot of things he needed to do. He had to be with his parabatai; he had to stay by his sister's side; he had to explain everything to his parents, then to the whole Clave; but primarily, he had to help Magnus. The warlock was in no shape to stand up by himself, let alone heal his own wounds. Thus, Alec had to be there for him and heal Magnus when he couldn't heal himself.

The echo carries, Magnus’ head snaps up and when his eyes (all gold, Alec can see even from here) find the source of the voice, the sword drops from his lax fingers. As if on cue, they throw themselves into a run. Alec stumbles, almost falls, but it doesn’t matter; he doesn’t take his eyes off of Magnus, afraid if he blinks, the warlock will be gone again. They crash and fall into each other’s arms like drowning men finding land - Magnus wraps his arms tight around Alec’s neck and he holds him back, buries his face in Magnus’ shoulder, breathes easy. Despite his heart hammering in his ears, he can hear Magnus whisper, “You found me.”
