“Wait,” says Eddie, suddenly processing what that means. “Are you saying you want us to go undercover as a couple?”“That’s exactly what I’m saying. Look, there was no one else I could ask. And I genuinely believe you two could do the job. You already live together. How’s the roommate thing been working out?”“Pretty great, actually,” says Buck.“Don’t sound so surprised,” Eddie says teasingly.“See?” says Athena. “You already have that added experience. It’ll make this all more realistic. You won’t just be two coworkers paired together to solve a case. You have a real bond.”Eddie doesn’t want to think about the implications of what she’s saying. They’re bonded—as she puts it—enough to be believable as a real couple. He and Buck are just friends. Surely, the way they act isn’t seen as couple-like to anyone else. He’s straight. He doesn’t think of Buck that way, so why would anyone else think he did?“I’ll have to think about it,” Eddie says, at the same time Buck says, “I don’t see why not.”
Or: Buck and Eddie go undercover as a couple. Everything that happens is completely platonic. Obviously.
