She was still dressed in the same clothes she’d been wearing in the cafeteria. Her eyes rubbed red, tears stained her cheeks, but her stare was vacant as her fingers scrambled frantically through her hair, weaving one messy braid after another. She didn’t seem to register his presence.

He approached her slowly, kneeling down on the cold floor in front of her. “You haven’t done that in years. Not since Lincoln died.”
