Summary
“What’s the most important thing in the world?”Wilbur doesn’t know the answer. He’s twenty-one, there’s not exactly a metric ton of wisdom hidden away inside him. He isn’t really sure until he looks around. Sunlight hits Tommy in a way that really makes him look young again, wind blowing curly hair away from his face. That face with that same smile he always has. He struggled to pinpoint it for a while, but Tommy looks at him like he is the greatest man to have ever lived. He isn’t, but Tommy seems to think so. It’s strange to watch Tommy watch him with adoration, for him to explode with excitement when he plays a song Tommy knows. Dinner is being served inside, but they are eating oranges under their tree. Together. Tommy would rather be outside with a broken unlovable man than inside with the kids his age eating a warm meal.“Being loved.”
