“I wanted to ask-“ Merrill’s voice cracked just a little, her words sounding scratchy. She didn’t like to ask for help, didn’t often need to. “No.” Anders interrupted, giving her a once over and then elbowing past her into his clinic. “Whatever errand you want to run, I’m busy. Can you see I have more patients than I know what to do with?” He pushed through the curtain and let it fall behind him. But she caught the rough, ragged cotton of the curtain. Merrill thought it would be rude to glance around the quiet, empty room, so she didn’t take her eyes off him. She sucked her lower lip beneath her teeth, and lothe as she was to admit it, she confessed. “I just need some help.” *** Merrill is going to fix her mirror at any cost, blood, lies, tears, she’ll trade it all. But now Anders has got swept up in the quest to fix the mirror and he wants no part of this… unless Merrill can make a deal sweet enough to pique his interest?
