Honor Among Thieves

Young halfling Valder Applewood has a good life. His family's apple orchard may not be as prosperous as it once was, but the Applewoods have always gotten by.But when vicious loan sharks burn the farm to the ground with his family still inside, Valder loses everything. All he has left are his mother's final words, a plea to seek out his uncle in the city of Golden Port, across the Eastern Sea. Coyote, a petty thief and hard-drinking drifter, is headed the same way. So when they find Valder starving in an alleyway, they decide to take him along for the journey, and Valder is glad to accept the invitation. What better traveling companion than a street-wise escape artist? As Coyote teaches Valder the art of street survival, an unlikely friendship begins to form, and Valder starts to notice Coyote's restless facade slowly fading. But Coyote has many secrets, and when dangerous figures from their shady past begin to threaten the pair's journey, Valder finds himself questioning everything he thought he knew about the mysterious Shifter. Why is Coyote really going to Golden Port? What really happened to their adopted family? And is it really true that there is no such thing as honor among thieves?
