Summary
“No, no, no.” Buck clawed at the ground, trying to pull himself free. He couldn’t be stuck under the truck. Not again. He couldn’t go back there. He could feel his body wanting to succumb to the pain, wanting to give up. But he couldn’t do that. He had almost lost everything last time, he couldn’t go through that again.
But as he clawed at the ground, pain shooting through him, he heard footsteps. They were soft at first, a low pound through the ringing in his ears. But then they got louder like a drum beat at the climax of an orchestral score. Buck turned towards the footsteps, his eyes traveling up.
