Summary
The first thing that hits his eyes is a strand of white-cyan-violet and he flinches on instinct and scrambles for the controls and— realizes it doesn’t move, not like the lasers had; a curling mirage of scattered smoke. Not a straight line. A circle; a messy one. A vast line of glowing dust and specks of plasma glinting like little stars in a cloud that, like smoke on water, glides and weaves within the cosmos until it falls in line.He already knows what awaits him once he sees the signs. Puts it together. The reeling sea of stars sliding too freely, like oil, on the watery matter of spacetime; the explosion converted into rings of cyan-violet flame brighter on one side and so neat in the face of the natural chaos of things.A black egg resting so calmly, so nicely, in the middle.
