Summary

George always finds himself dragged to the university's football games by his best friend. Really, he knows nothing about football and he refuses to learn because American sports make no sense. Still, that doesn't stop him from enjoying the eye candy that is the football team, specifically the gorgeous star quarterback, Dream. So, maybe he has a bit of a crush. Maybe this crush leads him to pretend he's a big football fan in order to garner the attention of the aforementioned quarterback. Surely, this will have no

consequences.

Title from Dead of Night by Orville Peck

Notes:

For venus43.

hi! It's been a while since I wrote a one-shot that was just pure fluff, but Venus gave me this idea and I just had to write a gushy,

cliche rom-com of it or else I think I would simply perish. I hope you enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

George knew absolutely nothing about American football. He never had to, there was no point. He understood that it was one of the biggest sports in America, he understood that even more when he decided to go to a university in Florida of all places just to get away from home and found out that apparently, football was their pride and joy. Even so, he could tag along to games with his friends and have a good time without even daring to comprehend the sport and that was okay because the purpose of going to football games was rarely to watch the game, it was more to have an excuse to shout at something and hang out with friends. So, knowing nothing about football has never been an issue for George.

Until he met the quarterback.

See, the thing about the football games was that George’s best friend Alex was a photographer for the school newspaper, and the school newspaper being just as obsessed with football as the rest of the school meant a lot of the time, Alex had to take photos of the games. Not just the games, but the players in all their sweat, post-win haze of glory. This meant that after just about every game, George found himself being dragged onto the searing red track that surrounds the football field. Since he is just a simple man, he used this time on the field to enjoy the eye candy that was the college football team. Particularly, the star quarterback (because of course, the star player is the quarterback, what else would he be?) Dream. He was a sight for sore eyes, that’s for damn sure.

He was an Adonis, to put it gently. Tanned skin, defined muscles, a sparkling smile, and dirty blond hair that somehow managed to look flattering even when it was drenched in sweat. He runs off the field now after doing something that elicited a stadium roar and a winning score by the time the buzzer sounded. George frankly had no idea and he was already buzzed from the overpriced beer that Alex bought for him.

As the game comes to an end and the team is celebrating, there is already a hand on his wrist tugging him through the thrums of people cheering and conversing. He follows Alex willingly, he doesn’t have a choice considering he did drive him here, so. Once they are on the field, he closes in on himself, watching from afar as Alex takes pictures of the players.
