Summary
“Why did you propose to me?” Will spoke again for the first time in minutes, his voice performing casually as though the question hadn't been at the tip of his tongue for days. He had his theories, they had all bounced off of the corners of his skull along with the realization that he felt no shame in agreeing to marry the cannibal who had easily and confidently torn his past life to shreds.
Hannibal sighed, not in annoyance but not in admiration, either. He must have been expecting the question, then, but hoping that Will wouldn't have to ask it. "I think of it not so much as a proposal," he spoke, "but as a confirmation of the relationship we have developed. A testament, maybe." He looked down at Will's ring finger, addressing the band directly for the first time. "It's impossible to verbalize, but I am already, among other things, your husband."
