Summary
“Hey, are you okay?” Demetri’s voice filtered into Eli’s brain as he tried to smother the cough that had painfully forced its way up and out of his lungs in the middle of computer sciences. They still sat next to each other, as if nothing had ever changed— despite the way they no longer joked around like they once had.
Eli clenched his fist around the incriminating flower that he’d managed to hack up, catching a momentary glimpse of the vibrant purple that had begun to haunt his life, before stuffing it into his hoodie pocket. “Fine,” he managed to grit out, his voice scratchy.
There was a rawness to his throat that wouldn’t seem to go away anymore, and he knew it was only going to get worse.
