Summary
When Gimli glared at him, now, his once vibrant beard and brows were snowy white. Legolas felt his heart catch at the sight, and he swallowed, and set aside his hammer and nails, too. “You’re right. Sorry. I’m sorry. It’s long past dinnertime.” Legolas couldn’t even joke that the halflings would scold them for their overdue dinner. There was no one else left. There were, of course, but one tended to fall out of touch when even one’s friends’ grandchildren were old, as were the Fairbairn halflings, descended of Samwise and Rosie’s eldest Elanor. King Elessar’s heirs were old now, too, and there were no elves left in Middle-earth, either. None but Legolas, who stayed for Gimli the dwarf.
