Summary
Daniel remembers the day he decided to stop drinking with mixed feelings. On the one hand, it was the night he got his ass kicked by five humans in skeleton pajamas about a hundred years his junior. (If he hadn’t already been on the wagon for a few days, he tells himself, they wouldn’t have caught him at all, despite all the times they had already caught his tiny, 16-year-old frame.) On the other, it was the night he gained his mentor and best friend in the whole world. Daniel also remembers the day he started drinking again, thirty-odd years later, with mixed feelings: it meant meeting the enemy on an even footing at the cost of a broken promise.
