Soon, I found that I had settled back into my old, disappointingly familiar sense of uneasiness whenever Lestat was around—and our home, which all three of us had so comfortably shared, rapidly became inundated with unspoken tension. While I was never able to hear the details of Claudia’s thoughts without her permission, I could still sense the unrestrained echoes of her growing distress through our mental bond, as the troubled nights wore on.
