Summary
Eddie has never felt less stable in his life, the world tilting on its axis as black mascara tear tracks trace down Chrissy Cunningham’s pretty pretty face.
She’s staring down at where he’s got his hand wrapped around her wrist, and christ, he might be an asshole but he certainly isn’t a dick; they both know he doesn’t actually have a grip on her.
“....why?” she asks, and it’s a snot-choked, wrack of a gasp, like it’s been torn out from between her teeth against her will. Eddie’s heart plummets. “Why would you do that?”
Eddie swallows, and lets Chrissy tug herself free, shrinking into the too-big shirt she borrowed from him just for tonight. His jacket sits boxy on her shoulders.
“You weren’t supposed to-” he starts, and hates himself.
“I wasn’t supposed to what?” she asks, swiping uselessly at her face. “Find out?”
Eddie loses a bet.
And when Eddie loses that bet, he has to ask out Chrissy Cunningham.
To his eternal surprise, it goes really well-
-until it doesn't.
